The Arizona Diamondbacks (31-27) will take on the San Francisco Giants (29-30) at home in AT&T Park at 10:10 PM EST.

RHP Zack Godley will get the start for the Diamondbacks against LHP Derek Holland for the Giants. The Diamondbacks sit in first place in the NL West after yesterday's win, while the Giants are tied for third sitting 2.5 games back.

Arizona Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks so far this year have shown that last season was not a fluke and they are looking to reach the playoffs again.

The team is highlighted by CF A.J. Pollock who leads the team with 11 HRs and 33 RBI's. 3B Daniel Descalso has also been a big contributor hitting .261/.355/.521. For the Offense to succeed they will need to score early. Looking at their wins the one thing they have in common is that they have scored multiple runs in the first three innings.

On the mound for Arizona will be RHP Zack Godley, who is 5-4 with a 4.38 ERA in 11 starts this season. Godley has been pretty inconsistent this year for the Diamondbacks. In the games that he pitches he seems to throw a quality start or lets the game get from him early. In his only other start against the Giants this year he went for 7 innings throwing 9 K's without giving up a run. For him to succeed tonight he will need to establish himself early.

The Diamondbacks have looked pretty weak offensively being 27th in Runs, last in Batting Average and 29th in On-base percentage. The pitching for the Diamondbacks has been their strong suit. They are fourth in ERA and are first in runs allowed with 199. Defensively they have only committed 19 errors putting them in third place in that category.

San Francisco Giants

The Giants offense is led by 1B Brandon Belt and 3B Evan Longoria, hitting 11 and 10 HRs respectively, and both have 31 RBIs. Of course, Belt won't be in the game after his recent appendectomy. The Giants also have SS Brandon Crawford who is hitting .310 right now.

For the offense to be successful to be successful someone is going to have to step up and fill Brandon Belt's production.

Derek Holland is currently 3-6 with a 4.94 ERA.  In his previous start against the Diamondbacks, he pitched six innings giving up only two earned runs, but could not get the win. Holland has been pretty consistent in not letting games get out of reach. He has yet to give up more than four earned runs this year. He will need to keep the game in reach for the offense like he typically does.

The Giants have had issues with injuries with Madison Bumgardner, Johnny Cueto, and Jeff Samardzija all spending time on the disabled list. That being said the Giants are still only 2.5 games back. They are third in Batting Average hitting .260 but struggle to get runs scored being 22nd in the majors. They are also 22nd in the majors in ERA posting a 4.45.

Final Thoughts

This game puts two teams who could be competing for the division towards the end of the season.

This game should be a fun one to watch. San Fransisco will need to find a way to hit guys in and the Diamondbacks will need Zack Godley to have a repeat performance of his last game against the Giants. This game will be broadcast on ESPN, on NBC Sports Bay Area in the San Francisco area, and on Fox Sports Arizona.
