Finally Some Relief

The Atlanta Braves have made some moves to strengthen their bullpen.

These moves are made much to the delight of the fans.  Braves have picked up two relievers to bolster their bullpen.  Their first move came late last week when they got Jonny Venters back from the Rays and on Sunday they pick up Brad Brach from the Orioles.

The Braves bring back former fan favorite set up man Jonny Venters.

He has returned this season from three Tommy John surgeries.  He may not be the same pitcher he was when he was part of the three-headed monster, but he will be very helpful against left-handed batters.  If he could return to half of what he used to be, he can be a key piece in the Braves bullpen.  The good part of this trade is that Braves only gave up some international bonus pool space.

The other move the Braves made was getting Brad Brach for international bonus pool space.

This move makes sense for Atlanta.  The bullpen has struggled this season and the Braves hope that Brach can step in and be a vital part of the continued push for the playoffs.  Even though he has struggled this year, there is belief that he can turn it around and be a big part of their future success, especially if they can resign him after this year.

All in all, this is a great first step.

If the Braves can get a few more pieces by the deadline, then they will be set up for a great rest of the year.  I believe if they can acquire another starting pitcher and a bench bat, they would be in a good spot to finish the year and go back to the playoffs.

What do you think of these moves?  What else do you think the Braves should do?
